On the evening of Monday, March 18th, the Peterborough store held a spring "Out to Pasture" Equine Seminar.
The seminar was well attended, selling out in advance.
Joyann Woolsey of Buckeye Nutrition spoke about utilizing ration balancers to compliment a forage-first diet. She emphasized the usage of forage samples & meeting core nutrition requirements in all levels of horses. '
Dr. Leah Knox DVM of Gilson Equine Veterinary Services have a very informative presentation on parasite control & fecal testing. She stressed the importance of determining high level parasite shedders within the herd & how to avoid further increasing parasite resistance.
Dale Bolton, Crop Advisor at Sunderland Co-op touched on key pasture management points, including rotation grazing, mowing, manure removal, seeding, fertilizing and soil sampling.
Tim Campbell, Pasture Specialist at Sunderland Co-op began his presentation with a refresher in the basics of electric fence. He then took a more in-depth look at simple temporary fencing solutions for rotational grazing. Tim also explained fencing grants available to customers.
All participants received a "swag" bag with information packages from OMAFRA, Quality Seeds Ltd., Equine Guelph and Buckeye Nutrition, along with samples, horse treats & a coupon for in-store use.
