The Peterborough branch held two Backyard Poultry 101 seminars, with Poultry Specialist, Meghan Kortis, during the month of April.
The first seminar was held on April 16th and focused specifically on raising broilers for meat, at the backyard level. Meghan touched on preparing for day-old chicks, feeding for optimal gains, fast vs slow growth breeds, predator prevention & control, processing options, farm gate marketing, biosecurity and Avian Influenza.
The second seminar was held on April 27th and focused on backyard laying hens. During this seminar, Meghan discussed selecting breeds, raising day-old chicks, proper nutrition, laying hen life cycles, predator prevention & control, coop design and overwintering.
Attendees from both seminars received an information package, as well as a coupon to use towards purchasing their poultry supplies.
Thank you to everyone who attended both events.
